1984: Ignore the Taillamps, This Was Not a Cutlass
As a matter of fact, this cobbled mule of a car was one of the prototypes of the 1986 General Motors E-Body platform. This Cadillac version was snapped as the front-drive coupe was undergoing parking trials in Tempe, Arizona. While the 86′ E-cars would be built off of the same 103-in platform, exterior design differentiated would be much greater than the 1979-1985 cars, thanks to three specific roof-lines. The Cadillac would be proportioned just like the mule pictured here, with only minor refinements to the rear quarter window. The Buick ‘E’ was destined to feature a thicker sail panel that looked much like the 1979-85 Riviera. Rumor indicated the Oldsmobile may feature the most radical styling with a near fastback roof-line not unlike the 1966-68 Toronado.
Thank you for the flashback. I remember seeing this in the high school library and I knew this was a E Body prototype and it was not good. You can see 1986 Toronado in this looking at this clearly. That styling was bad and it was not until 1989-1992 all those E-Bodies were fixed. GM went through some tough times. They pretty much messed up the cash cow with these.

So the 1969-70 Toronado was different?
Not the only fail here.
