The full-size 2003 Expedition retained the look of the previous generation, yet it was completely redesigned. A new frame with hydroformed rails increased torsional rigidity. An independent rear suspension improved ride quality and boosted interior space. XLT and Edie Bauer models featured a 4.6L/232-hp or 5.4K/260-hp V-8 coupled to a four-speed automatic and RWD or ControlTrac 4WD. Interiors seated up to nine passengers and offered a new power-folding third-row seat. Options included side curtain airbags, vehicle stability control, a rear-seagt DVD entertainment system, and an FX4 off-road package.
