1986: Pontiac LeMans Returns – From Korea

Chevrolet called its Toyota hybrid the Nova, so perhaps it was fitting that Pontiac reached back into its closet and applied LeMans to the subcompact it imported from Korea in 1987.  LeMans, of course, was the name of a succession of mid-sized Pontiac’s dating from the early 1960’s. More interesting than the name of the car, a thinly disguised version of the Opel Kadett.  The Kadett had earned quite a name for itself in Europe, so the invasion to the American market was highly anticipated. The LeMans was built by the Korean conglomerate Daewoo, and became Pontiac’s price leader.
