Jeep’s mainstay sport-utility wagon was mostly a rerun for 1992, but it would see a change in marketing emphasis for 1993. With the debut of the new upscale Grand Cherokee, the standard Cherokee line would be stripped of its higher priced offerings. The remaining models would be repositioned as entry-level sport utilities with less standard equipment. This will allow Jeep to price them below the likes of Chevrolet S10 Blazer/GMC Jimmy, Ford Explorer, Nissan Pathfinder, and Toyota 4Runner.
Included in the handful of changes for 1992 were a new leather upholstery option for 5-door Cherokee Laredos, new design radios with integral digital clocks, detachable dual cup holders added to the full-length center console, a glass sunroof as a new option for Sport models, and standard front vent windows for Laredo and the plush limited and Briarwood.
