1979 Chrysler Newport Commercial – Hal Linden
Highland Park stylists did a good job of hiding the mid-size origins of their full-size 1979 “R-body” cars. The Newport was less expensive than the New Yorker, but just as large, qualities that showed up well in police-vehicle tests. Exposed headlamps and a checkerboard style grille quickly separated the Newport from the New Yorker to onlookers. The Chrysler Newport had a list price of $6089 with the slant six, $7869 with a 318 V-8.
